Smoke Provides Excitement at Grant Middle School

An air handler overheated just before the start of classes at Grant Middle School Friday morning causing the evacuation of students and staff, but no injuries and only minor damage.

Marion City School Board Changes Meeting Date

The Marion City School Board of Education has changed the regular scheduled meeting date for the January 23, 2012 meeting to January 30, 2012.  The meeting will still be held at the Administration Center, 910 E. Church St., Marion, OH at 7:00 p.m.

State Punishes Two Local Districts for Community School Performances

Nine community school sponsors are prohibited from opening additional schools for at least a year under a new provision of state law, the Ohio Department of Education announced Tuesday. The school sponsors include Marion City Schools and Ridgedale Local Schools in Marion County.

Time Change Announced for City Schools Board Meeting

The Marion City School Board of Education has changed the regular scheduled meeting time for the October 3, 2011 meeting to 5:00pm. The meeting was previously scheduled for October 3 at 7:00pm.

River Valley Youth Take Two Against Harding

River Valley hosted Harding in youth football Sunday, September 19, with three very tight games. In the opener, RV freshman (4th grade) stretched their record to 2-0 with a strong defensive effort as they won 12-0.

Grade Cards for Local Districts Released

Classes just started for schools in Marion County, but it’s already grade card time. The State of Ohio Department of Education released annual district grade cards Wednesday. According to the indicators met, Pleasant is the best district in the county followed up by River Valley, Elgin, Ridgedale (who are basically tied), and then Marion City Schools.

Ohio State’s Gee Helps Reward Elementary Students

Students at the Marion City Schools’ Benjamin Harrison Elementary were rewarded for attendance and grades during an assembly on Wednesday, May 18. In addition to college tuition, the students were paid a visit by Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee.

Cranmer Recognized with Tony Caprino Scholarship

Jeremy Cranmer, Harding High School, is the recipient of a $500.00 scholarship from Benjamin Harrison Elementary PTA.

The Tony Caprino scholarship is awarded to a senior who attended the former Indian Mound elementary school and who lived in the Indian Mound district.

City Schools Registering Kids for Preschool

It's time to get ready for preschool. Parents are urged to get their children registered for preschool screening.

Marion City Schools Preschools are now registering children for preschool screening for the 2011-2012 school year.

Marion City School Board Moves Meeting

The Marion City School Board of Education has rescheduled the Board of Education meeting for Tuesday, February 22, 2011 to Monday, February 21, 2011.

The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Administration Center, 910 E. Church St., Marion.
