Police Warn Residents About Increase in Burglaries

The Marion Police Department reports they are seeing a continuing rise in burglaries being committed in the City of Marion. TV’s and video game systems are frequently the targets of the thefts. Also, copper pipes and wiring are being taken from homes. The thefts and burglaries are occurring at all times of the day and throughout the City of Marion.

A review of recent burglaries by the Investigative Division of the department has found that the majority of the homes were entered at the back of the home and through unlocked doors and windows.

“With reduced staffing levels, we are very dependent on your ears and eyes to help us,” stated Marion Police Major Randy Caryer.

Residents are encouraged to contact the police if they see anything or anyone suspicious in their neighborhoods.

Major Caryer reminds residents to lock their doors and windows and to document the make, model, and serial numbers of their electronics.

“We have found that most victims do not have any records of serial numbers of their electronics,” explained Caryer. He said that information can help police locate and identify property if it is stolen.
