Columbus Crew Travels to Chivas Saturday
After an impressive home win over the Houston Dynamo last Saturday (July 24), the first-place Crew travels to Los Angeles for an encounter with Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center this Saturday (July 31). It will be the second and final time the clubs will meet this year, with the Crew having taken the first game, 1-0 on May 15 at Crew Stadium.
Saturday’s match, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m., will be televised live regionally on ONN-TV with Dwight Burgess and Bill McDermott calling all the action. The game can also be heard in English on News/Talk 610 WTVN, with Neil Sika behind the microphone, as well as in Spanish on La Mega 103.1-FM, featuring Carlos Cordova and Benny Pietrangelo on the call.
Chivas, which currently sits in eighth place in the Western Conference with a 4-9-3 record (15 pts.), enters the match on the heels of an impressive 1-1 draw at Real Salt Lake on Saturday (July 24). Jesus Padilla’s 70th-minute goal equalized just four minutes after RSL’s Ned Grabavoy opened the scoring. That game followed three straight SuperLiga matches, including a 1-0 win over fabled Mexican club Pachuca.
The Crew, which remains in first place in the Eastern Conference with a 10-3-4 record (34 pts.), enters the match after earning a decisive 3-0 victory over Houston, extending the Black & Gold’s lead over idle New York to eight points in the Eastern Conference. Emilio Renteria, Andy Iro and Leandre Griffit scored the goals and William Hesmer was forced to make just one save in recording the shutout.
